WIGGINS FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER, ATTEMPTED MURDER IN 2020 SHOOTING
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Alexander Wiggins was found guilty by a jury of Second-Degree Murder, two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder, and Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles. With the verdict, Wiggins faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Mark Borello will sentence Wiggins during a Feb. 17, 2023, hearing.
On Nov. 17, 2020, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a Mixon Town address in reference to a shooting that took place in the roadway in front of a home. Two victims — a male and a female — were transported to the hospital. The female died from her injuries. The investigation revealed that Wiggins left his job at a Downtown transportation agency and drove to the Mixon Town residence where he shot into the car the three victims were in. Wiggins then fled in a car and returned to work. Wiggins’ GPS data and surveillance from the area confirmed he was in the area at the time of the shooting and surveillance footage from his employer confirmed the times he left and returned to work. Days later, both surviving victims were able to identify Wiggins, who was arrested shortly after on a warrant.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Will Grauel and Carson Sadro.
