DUVAL COUNTY JURY FINDS SAPP GUILTY OF POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Chauntel Sapp guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Sapp faces up to 15 years in the Florida State Prison with a minimum-mandatory of three years. The Honorable Jeb Branham will set a sentencing date June 13, 2023.

On Jan. 25, 2022, members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Crime Gun Intelligence Unit conducted surveillance on Sapp, who was a wanted suspect. Detectives observed Sapp leave her home and conducted a traffic stop. Sapp was arrested on the outstanding arrest warrant and provided detectives consent to search her car. In the back seat, detectives found a loaded pistol inside Sapp’s work bag.  Sapp is a convicted felon and is not legally allowed to own a firearm. The charges related to the outstanding arrest warrant are still pending.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Mark Caliel.
