State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Jarrett Williams guilty of Second-Degree Murder. With the verdict, Willliams faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jonathan Sacks will sentence Williams at a later date.

On Oct. 18, 2022, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a person shot at an apartment on Cleveland Street. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Witnesses reported to officers they saw the victim was inside the apartment with Williams when they heard multiple gunshots, and then Williams ran away from the scene holding a pink handgun. One witness reported they watched Williams follow the victim into the back room of the house. After further investigation, officers discovered the victim owed Williams money. The victim was at the apartment complex looking for Williams; he went upstairs to talk to Williams and then Williams shot him.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Annie Maguire and Joe Licandro.
