State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces today that Anthony Javon Mincey, 40, of Riverview, was found guilty by a jury of Battery in a Detention Facility. Mincey now faces a maximum of 10 years in Florida State Prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled before the Honorable Steven B. Whittington on May 15.

According to court documents, testimony, and evidence presented at trial, the victim is the brother of a witness in Mincey’s 2015 murder trial, for which Mincey currently is serving a life sentence. The victim was placed in the same cell as Mincey at the Duval County Jail. Mincey sought revenge and beat the victim severely enough that he lost teeth and suffered a head laceration.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and is being prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Catie Smith and Amanda Parker.
