THE DANIEL E. WATTS OUSTANDING LAW ENFORCMENT OFFICER AWARDS
The Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer awards is hosted annually by the State Attorney's Office, sponsored by Stellar, to recognize exceptional public safety efforts at the local, state, and federal levels. Named in honor of Jacksonville Beach Police Department Sgt. Daniel E. Watts — the ceremony's inspiration — a ceremony is held to honor the men and women selected for recognition of acts of service and bravery the year preceding.
Watts approached State Attorney Melissa Nelson with the idea to honor fellow law enforcement. Nelson loved the idea and worked alongside Watts to bring the event to fruition. Watts served on the inaugural selection committee. In 2021, Watts died from COVID, and the awards were renamed in his honor.
