This week marked the start of school for many children in Northeast Florida — and the State Attorney’s Office ensured many kids began the year off right.

With the assistance of valuable partners and sponsors, the office’s Juvenile Diversion Team hosted a school readiness event Aug. 4 that provided more than 60 backpacks filled with school supplies to students. Supplies included pencils, paper, folders, composition books, and other items needed by grade level. Lunch and snacks were provided and gift cards to area vendors were raffled.

The Juvenile Diversion Team operates numerous programs to assist area youth and their families and collaborates with providers like Bay Area Youth Services.

The State Attorney’s Office would like to thank the following sponsors for helping make the event possible:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office
Bay Area Youth Services
Youth Crisis Center
Communities In Schools of Jacksonville
CareerSource
Gateway Services
SmartBox
Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department
