Officials and stakeholders of the Fourth Circuit Veterans Treatment Court during a recent ceremony honoring the program as a national model.

The Fourth Judicial Circuit Veterans Treatment Court recently was named one of four national mentor courts by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals.

The Justice for Vets Mentor Court Program works with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to identify exemplary veterans treatment courts. These recognized courts host staff and officials from other jurisdictions as a way to provide research, education, and outreach to continue the growth and success of these successful programs.

The Duval County Veterans Treatment Court was one of four recognized recently with the honor, joining similar courts in Billings, Mont.; Buffalo, N.Y.; and Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Office for the State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit is an active participant in Veterans Treatment Court and uses the nationally recognized program to provide assistance to current and former military members arrested for a criminal offense when there is a relationship between the offense and the veteran’s military service.
