State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces the return by a grand jury of indictments charging three defendants with First-Degree Murder. With the indictments, each adult defendant faces a sentence of mandatory life in prison, unless the State provides notice of its intent to seek the death penalty, in accordance with Florida law.

The grand jury returned First-Degree Murder charges for:

• Erica Newsome, S.A. Case No. 18CF002297AD. Newsome also is charged with Aggravated Child Abuse and Child Neglect.

• DeAngelo Woods, S.A. Case No. 16CF043641AD. Woods also is charged with Armed Robbery, Burglary with Assault or Battery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

• Jihad Smith, S.A. Case No. 17CF019213AD. Smith also is charged Tampering with Evidence and Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile Delinquent with a Prior Felony.
