State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Michael Anthony Allen, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Actual Possession). Allen now faces a maximum of 15 years in Florida State Prison with a 3-year mandatory minimum. A sentencing hearing is scheduled before the Honorable Lester Bass on Feb. 12, 2019.

On July 4, 2018, law enforcement conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle that ran a red light. Allen was a passenger in the car. As officers approached the vehicle, they saw a .22-caliber rifle on the floorboard in the back passenger area. The officer asked the driver who the firearm belonged to and the Allen immediately said it was his.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and is being prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Lidija Irena Barauskas and Christina Stifler.
