State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Robert Lee Jr., of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Armed Robbery. The Honorable Mark Borello on Feb. 8, 2019, sentenced Lee, a Prison Releasee Reoffender, to Life in Florida State Prison.

On June 8, 2018, an unknown man approached the victim Downtown near the park at Main and Monroe streets and pretended to know him. While the victim was conversing, Lee struck him in the head from behind. The victim awoke to see Lee and his unknown accomplice rummaging through his pockets. When the victim attempted to fight back, Lee pulled a knife on him. The two stole $80 and a cellphone. Lee was located by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office a short time later and the victim was able to positively identify him. Police called the victim’s cellphone, which rang in Lee’s pocket.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Sam Friedman and Trey Atkinson.
