State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Tyrone Michael Mcgriff, of Neptune Beach, was found guilty by a jury of Sale, Manufacture, or Delivery of Cocaine Within 1,000 Feet of a Convenience Store. McGriff now faces a maximum of 30 years in Florida State Prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled to be set before the Honorable Marianne Aho on June 13, 2019.
On Oct. 19, 2017, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division detectives were operating in an undercover capacity in a buy-bust operation. The detectives stopped at a Stockton Street gas station with a convenience business located nearby. McGriff was positioned by the door of the gas station and started a conversation with the detective as she approached the door. The detective informed McGriff she was about to head to the beach to pick up some “clean,” a street term for powder cocaine. McGriff informed her he could help and proceeded to exchange powder cocaine for $60 worth of Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office funds. The transaction took place within 1,000 feet of the convenience business.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Amanda Newman and Catie Messinger.
