State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Mikel Gary McClusky, of Perry, was found guilty by a jury of two counts of Sexual Battery. McClusky now faces a maximum of life in Florida State Prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled before the Honorable Linda McCallum on April 8, 2019.

On Feb. 17, 2006, McClusky met the victim walking in the Arlington area of Jacksonville. McClusky gave her a ride back to her trailer and forcibly raped her. The victim immediately reported the crime and underwent a sexual assault examination, but the case was closed in 2006 without a named suspect. In 2017, the victim’s sexual assault kit was submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as a part of the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) in the State Attorney’s Office. McClusky, already a designated Sexual Offender, was identified from the victim’s sexual assault kit.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Leigh Rosenbloom and Tonya Patterson-Barge.
