State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Nakia Campbell, of Jacksonville, was found guilty as charged by a jury of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Armed Burglary with Assault or Battery. Campbell was sentenced to 35 years in Florida State Prison by the Honorable Lester Bass on April 9, 2019.

On April 8, 2018, the Campbell went to his ex-girlfriend’s home and broke down the door. Once inside, he brandished a firearm in front of the woman, her roommate, and a male visitor. The male ran from the apartment when Campbell pointed the gun at him. Campbell shot him in the back as he ran before fleeing himself. A good Samaritan neighbor helped stop the victim’s bleeding until first responders arrived. Campbell was arrested several weeks later while hiding out.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Christina Stifler and Lauren Anderson.
