State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Jarvis Kawane Williams, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Robbery. The Honorable Mark Borello sentenced Williams to 15 years, the mandatory minimum as a Prison Releasee Reoffender, in Florida State Prison.

On Aug. 13, 2018, Williams approached the victim as she was coming out of a North Main Street gas station in the early morning. Williams grabbed the victim’s purse and overcame her resistance by pushing her back and running away. The incident was captured on the store’s surveillance cameras. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detectives were able to discover Williams’ identity and later arrested him while he was in the Duval County Jail on other charges.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and is being prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Christina Stifler and Trey Atkinson.
