Jury Finds Prescott Guilty of False Imprisonment, Aggravated Battery

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Dexter Prescott, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of False Imprisonment, Aggravated Battery, Theft, and Grand Theft Auto. Prescott now faces up to XX years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Kevin Blazs will sentence Prescott during a July 13, 2021, hearing.

On Dec. 22, 2018, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a Westside intersection in reference to a reported aggravated battery. Upon arrival, the victim told law enforcement she had been beaten by Prescott, her ex-boyfriend. An investigation revealed the victim and Prescott were in a previous relationship that ended weeks prior to the incident. Prescott contacted the victim to pick up some possessions from her home earlier in the day. When Prescott arrived, he struck the victim, took her car keys, and demanded she get in the car or risk additional physical violence. Prescott drove with the victim as a passenger — she eventually dove out of the car at the Westside intersection, only to be followed by Prescott who punched her in the street before fleeing in the vehicle. Several witnesses observed the incident. The victim was transported to the hospital for her injuries and required emergency surgery; Prescott was later arrested.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Caitlin Messinger and Ashleigh Brooks.
