Man Found Guilty of Illegally Possessing Firearm

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Deyon Boyken, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury
of Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile Delinquent Found to Have Committed a Felony Act. Boyken
was adjudicated delinquent of an offense that would have been a felony if committed as an adult. Boyken
now faces a maximum of 15 years in Florida State Prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled before the
Honorable Tatiana Salvador the week of Sept. 27, 2021.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 10, 2019, Boyken was driving a car in the 1710 W. Beaver St. traveling
at an excessive rate of speed captured by a member of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The officer noticed
a plastic baggie sticking out of his pocket and received consent to search the car. Upon the search, the
officer found a black handgun on the passenger floorboard. Boyken was detained and a background
check revealed a past felony conviction, rendering him unable legally to possess a firearm.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Brittany Johnson and Abbiegail Francis.
