Richardson Found Guilty of False Imprisonment, Violating Injunction

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Hasan Richardson, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of False Imprisonment and Violation of an Injunction for Protection Against Domestic Violence. Richardson now faces up to 10 years in Florida State Prison if sentenced as a Habitual Violent Felony Offender. The Honorable Meredith Charbula will sentence Brooks during a hearing the week of July 12, 2021.

On June 13, 2020, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was notified of a potential domestic violence incident at a Northside apartment. When the officer arrived, they heard yelling inside the residence; the officer announced themselves and was met by Richardson, who yelled an expletive. Richardson continued yelling and blocked the door, preventing the victim from leaving the residence. Through the window, she asked the officer for help and was able to escape when Richardson also went to the window. The victim rushed toward the officer saying she was in fear for her life and that she had texted a co-worker to contact police. She stated Richardson continued to block her from leaving the residence and would not allow her to leave. An investigation revealed Richardson had an active injunction case for domestic violence. Richardson was arrested in the residence.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Phil Bavington.
