State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces Alexander Romero Hernandez, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of three counts of Sexual Battery and two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation. Romero Hernandez now faces a mandatory sentence of life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Gilbert Feltel will set a sentencing hearing the week of July 26, 2021.
On June 17, 2018, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office received information that Romero Hernandez had been molesting the minor victim, who was a family member. During the course of a Child Protection Interview, the victim disclosed that Romero Hernandez had sexual intercourse with her and touched her inappropriately several times over the course of three years. The victim’s mother later got Romero Hernandez to admit to having had sexual intercourse with the victim on a controlled call. Romero Hernandez was subsequently arrested.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Brooke Gasson and Phil Bavington.
