State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Ladae Franklin was found guilty by a jury of Attempted
Second-Degree Murder and Attempted Manslaughter. The Honorable Mark Borello sentenced Franklin to 32 years in Florida State Prison during a July 13, 2022, hearing.

At 4:30 a.m. Nov. 1, 2019, Franklin walked up to a car containing the victims — a male and female couple who were about to drive to work — and knocked on the driver’s side window. Franklin then pulled out a handgun and began firing, striking the male drive in the left shoulder and female passenger in the left forearm. Franklin then fled the scene on a bicycle. The male driver called police. An investigation revealed the male victim and Franklin worked together at a local sports retail business and the two had gotten into a dispute about money. Both victims were able to identify Franklin as the person who shot them through a photospread.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Rachel England and Brooke Gasson.
