Nassau Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Trafficking Meth

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Marquis Gay was found guilty by a jury of Trafficking in Methamphetamine While Armed With A Firearm, Possession Of A Firearm By A Convicted Felon, and Resisting An Officer Without Violence. The Honorable James Daniel sentenced Gay to 20 years in Florida State Prison during a Sept. 13, 2022, hearing.

On the evening of Sept. 2, 2020, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop of a black sedan on U.S. Highway 17 and state Road 200. Marquis Gay was a passenger in the car that sped away, traveled south, and ultimately crashed at Commercial Park Drive and U.S. 17. Gay then ran from the crash scene and threw an AR-15 on the ground. Gay, a two-time convicted felon, was unable to legally possess a firearm. Law enforcement caught Gay and found a bag of methamphetamine is his pocket along with a second large bag of methamphetamine five feet from where he was arrested. The substances tested positive as meth.

The case was investigated by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Susan Haag and Chris Huband.
