Jackson Short Joins State Attorney’s Office as Chief Investigator

Following a successful career at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Short joins the State Attorney’s Office as its chief investigator. Short takes over the role from Tim Quick, who retires this month having served in the position since 2017.

“Jackson Short’s distinguished career in law enforcement, his dedication to public service, and his ability to lead are valuable attributes that will help him step into this important role,” said State Attorney Melissa Nelson.

Short began his career with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 1998 and earned a series of leadership positions in his time with the organization. He most recently served as director of investigations and homeland security, where he was responsible for every major criminal investigation and critical incident in the city. Prior to that, Short served in a variety of leadership roles in professional standards, patrol, the violent crimes task force, and integrity/special investigations.

Short earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Florida and a master’s degree from American Military University. He also is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and Senior Management Institute for Police.

As chief investigator for the State Attorney’s Office, Short will oversee the agency’s team of talented investigators who are integral to the office’s mission of pursuing justice in Clay, Duval, and Nassau counties.

Quick departs after a combined 40 years in public service, most recently serving as Special Agent in Charge of the NCIS Norfolk Field Office. While at the State Attorney’s Office, Quick spearheaded efforts including the Cold Case Initiative, Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer Awards, and Jacksonville Crime Gun Intelligence Center.
