State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found John Graham Jr. guilty of First-Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Graham is facing a mandatory life sentence in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jeb Branham will formally sentence Graham at a future hearing.

On Feb. 18, 2020, officers with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a motel on Mustang Road for a homicide investigation. Police found the victim dead inside a motel room with multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation revealed three people conspired to rob and murder the victim. While one person was let inside the victim’s room for a fake drug deal, two others — including Graham — were waiting outside the door. Graham and the other defendant were let inside the room where they shot and killed the victim. The three also took money, drugs, and a firearm from the room. Surveillance footage captured the three entering and leaving the motel.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Brooke Milo and Brittany Johnson.
