Clay County Jury Finds Floyd Guilty of Aggravated Assault

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Clay County jury found Timothy Floyd guilty of two counts of Aggravated Assault; Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles; and Discharging Firearm from a Vehicle. With the verdict, Floyd faces up to 35 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Steven Whittington will sentence Floyd at a later date.

On Oct. 7, 2022, officers with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a person shot driving on Blanding Boulevard. Two people were in a van with Floyd behind them driving in his car. They explained to officers their van doesn’t accelerate quickly, and that seemed to agitate Floyd as he was stuck behind them in traffic. When there was an opening, Floyd changed lanes. Once next to their van, he fired one round into the passenger side. The driver was hit by the bullet in his right shoulder. The bullet also shattered the passenger’s side window and the glass hit and injured the person in the passenger seat. Both were taken to the hospital, and a BOLO was issued for Floyd’s vehicle — his identity was not known at the time. The next day, a CCSO officer conducted a traffic stop on Floyd and detained him. Floyd’s firearm was recovered by detectives as well as four rounds of live ammunition and the shell casing from the shooting.

The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jamie Cona and Randi Daugustinis.
