State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Kissy Mackey guilty of Accessory after the Fact in the 2021 killing of her boyfriend. With the verdict, Mackey faces up to 30 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Mackey at a later date.
Between 1-3 a.m. Aug. 3, 2021, Mackey and the victim woke up to the smell of gasoline and smoke. They discovered the front door on fire. The victim opened the door to find Randall Brown pouring gasoline on the door frame and lighting it on fire. Brown then stabbed him more than 80 times. After Brown killed the victim and the scene was tampered with, only then did Mackey call 911 to report a fire and stabbing as if it just happened. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim had already died from his injuries. Officers began their search for Brown with misleading information from Mackey, who claimed she did not know who the attacker was. Investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office would later discover Mackey broke up with Brown a few weeks prior. Around the same time as the breakup, Mackey’s son died, and she told Brown she was about to be rich. Brown knew Mackey was already dating another man and he attempted to win her back. Brown put a tracking device on Mackey’s car to find out where she was sleeping at night. About a day before the murder, Brown searched on Google how to kill someone with a knife and made other incriminating searches before and after the murder. Mere hours after the crime, Mackey changed her Facebook status to “in a relationship” with Brown. Electronic evidence revealed incriminating calls and texts between Mackey and Brown after the murder, including a text from Mackey that alluded to Brown being a “serial killer.”
The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Lauren Randall and Dan Skinner.
