State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Trevor Sigrist guilty of Felony Battery. With the verdict, Sigrist faces up to 10 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Anthony Salem will sentence Sigrist at a later date.

On June 1, 2023, the victim was found naked in the woods with scratches all over her body and severe abrasions on her back and buttocks. A passerby saw the victim and called 911; she was taken to a nearby hospital and was put on a ventilator. Doctors treated her for the cuts on her body and internal injuries, including a brain bleed. An officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spoke with the victim’s sister who recalled dropping her off with Sigrist by the Wonderwood Bridge. Sigrist lives in a tent under the bridge. On June 6, 2023, the victim was taken off the ventilator and was interviewed by the police.  She said Sigrist beat her with a briar bush, grabbed her by her hair, and dragged her through the gravel. She was able to escape, and the next thing she remembered was waking up in the hospital. The victim advised the police that Sigrist was angry because her sister owed him money for drugs. Sigrist went into hiding for several months, but patrol officers found him Sept. 8, 2023, and took him into custody.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Paige West and Lee Wingard.
