State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Edward Taylor guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Taylor faces up to life years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Taylor at a later date.

Just before 10 p.m. June 24, 2022, officers were called to the 800 block of A. Philip Randolph Boulevard in reference to someone being shot. Area cameras captured the incident, which showed a bald black male wearing a black tank-top shirt, blue jeans, and white shoes. The man is seen walking toward the victim and pointing a firearm at him before shooting him in the chest. The shooter then chases another man. A crowd then gathers and the shooter, later identified as Taylor, walks off screen before a car is seen driving away.

Officers canvassed the area and found Taylor — matching the description by appearance and clothing — nearby removing items from the trunk of a car. The car had several bullet holes in the rear of it and the back windshield was broken from gunfire. A bullet was also seen on the front driver’s seat.

While being interviewed post-Miranda, Taylor confirmed to be at the shooting scene and said he heard a gunshot, which caused him to get into the car and leave the area. He said he then realized a tire was flat, so he pulled over. He then requested an attorney.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jalisa Curtis and Blake Adams.
