State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Gregory Sangle Jr. guilty of Second-Degree Murder and Possession of a Bulletproof Vest. With the verdict, Sangle faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Sangle at a later date.

In the early afternoon of Dec. 28, 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a Westside mobile home community after someone had been shot. When they arrived, the found the victim, Arthur George, dead on his front porch wheelchair ramp from a gunshot wound to the head. A witness said he saw Sangle knock on George’s door before he heard a loud argument followed by multiple demands by George for Sangle to leave. The witness heard a gunshot, saw George collapse, and Sangle walked away from the home. Officers found Sangle walking down Collins Road and detained him. He was wearing a bulletproof vest and had a 9 mm handgun and several knives on him. While being detained, he said he stabbed someone in the past, but this was the first time he shot someone.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys LaTesha Campbell and Brittany Johnson.
