Gunn, Anderson Plead Guilty for 2021 Murder of Asunte Vincent

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Daishawn Gunn and Tywan Anderson pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder and other charges related to the 2021 killing of Asunte Vincent. During a hearing June 20, 2024, Gunn pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Immediately after the plea, the Honorable Kevin Blazs sentenced Gunn to 45 years in Florida State Prison. Anderson pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile Delinquent Found to Have Committed a Felony Act. Judge Blazs will sentence Anderson during a June 25, 2024, hearing; his guidelines call for at least a 25-year sentence. 

Before midnight June 18, 2021, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a tent on Shindler Drive after calls for a person shot. Officers found Vincent underneath a tent with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives found several shell casings at the scene and a black ski mask in the roadway. Multiple witnesses told detectives two black men came to the tent, with one wearing a black ski mask over his face. Witnesses said the two men — later identified as Gunn and Anderson — attacked two men in the tent. One male victim was struck with a firearm and Vincent was shot multiple times. Gunn ran from the scene on foot and Anderson drove off in a light-colored sedan. Video surveillance from the area corroborated witness accounts. Both Gunn and Anderson’s DNA were found on the ski mask and Gunn’s fingerprints were found on a vehicle at the scene. Anderson was later found in the possession of Vincent’s firearm, and the investigation confirmed Gunn and Anderson planned the robbery. Gunn was a convicted felon, which made his possession of a firearm illegal. Anderson was classified as a juvenile delinquent, which also made his possession of a firearm illegal.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Erin Wolfson and Alan Mizrahi.
