State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Jarvae Hines pleaded guilty to three counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder; five counts of Robbery with a Firearm; three counts of Aggravated Assault; two counts of Attempted Robbery with a Firearm; one count of Attempted Kidnapping with a Firearm; one count of Unarmed Robbery; and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Immediately following the negotiated plea, the Honorable London Kite sentenced Hines to more than 37 years in Florida State Prison. The negotiated plea and resulting sentence resolved numerous cases, many with similar fact patterns.
Between May 7-15, 2023, Hines went on a crime spree of armed robberies, assaults, thefts, and attempted murders before he was arrested May 15, 2023, by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
On May 7, 2023, a victim walked along Atlantic Boulevard looking at his phone when Hines approached him from behind and stole his phone and wallet at gunpoint. On May 9, 2023, Hines approached a woman making a transaction at a Merrill Road ATM and robbed her at gunpoint of $400. Two days later, Hines approached a woman making a transaction at an Atlantic Boulevard ATM and held a gun in her face while he robbed her of $200. On May 12, 2023, Hines stole a license tag at a bowling alley; attempted to kidnap a patron of the bowling alley; and robbed a man at gunpoint at a Lakeshore area ATM and fired shots at his car. Hines also shot at a good Samaritan who attempted to block him from fleeing. On May 13, 2023, Hines held another man at gunpoint at a local apartment complex and stole his wallet, later using the stolen cards at a fast-food restaurant and liquor store. Each of the victims described Hines’ physical appearance along with the SUV he drove. Surveillance footage from the restaurant and liquor store confirmed Hines was the person using stolen cards. On May 15, 2023, Hines tried to murder two victims at their home, robbed and assaulted several juvenile victims on Bartram Road, and assaulted another victim on San Jose Boulevard. When confronted by police, Hines ran, but he was ultimately arrested.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Brittany Johnson.
