Jury Finds Davis Guilty of First-Degree Murder, Armed Robbery

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Cameron Davis guilty of First-Degree Murder and Armed Robbery with the Discharge of a Firearm Causing Death. With the verdict, Davis faces a mandatory life sentence in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Anthony Salem will sentence Davis at a later date.

On Oct. 27, 2022, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office found the victim shot to death in the parking lot of his workplace on Commonwealth Avenue. Surveillance showed a silver four-door car pull into the parking lot where the victim was waiting. That vehicle then fled the parking lot after the shooting. The victim’s coworkers reported he had previously conducted at least one firearm sale from the business parking lot. Detectives recovered the victim’s phone and found the last number that communicated with the victim was attempting to purchase a firearm. The victim texted a time and place to meet, which was when and where he was shot. Investigators were able to confirm that Davis was one of the individuals communicating with the victim regarding the firearm sale. Digital evidence further revealed that Davis had been communicating with numerous other people to set up meetings with the alleged intent of purchasing a firearm. During a police interview, Davis admitted to driving to the location to purchase a rifle, but there was a dispute over payment. Davis admitted to shooting the victim during the dispute. Davis then stole the rifle along with a backpack from the victim’s truck.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Annie Maguire and Tom Mangan.
