State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Allan Bass was found guilty by a Duval County jury of First-Degree Murder, Attempted Second-Degree Murder, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Bass now faces a mandatory sentence of life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Lindsay Tygart will sentence Bass at a later date.

On Jan. 19, 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2000 block of Emerson Street in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a male victim dead inside a business and female victim shot several times; the second victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Video surveillance at the scene showed Bass, his brother, Alex, and one other suspect, all masked, exit a four-door car, run toward the victims’ car, and shoot numerous times. The two victims managed to get out of the car and run into the business but were followed by Alex Bass. The male victim was executed in front of female victim. The trio then fled in the car, which had distinctive features — upon further review, Allan Bass was found to have driven it during a separate firearm-related crime, and the vehicle tag came back to Bass’ mother. The vehicle was found at the Bass family home. The Bass brothers were apprehended by law enforcement later that day. Additional investigation revealed surveillance video from earlier in the day showing Allan Bass getting out of the suspect vehicle in the same clothing he wore during the shooting incident, and his cell site evidence placed him at the scene of the crime during the shooting. Additionally, the firearm that Bass used during the crime was later recovered and digital evidence tied Bass to the firearm.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Brooke Milo, Rachel Allison, and Catie Messinger.
