State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Kyra Baker guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Baker faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jeb Branham will sentence Baker at a later date.

On Sept. 8, 2023, the victim was standing outside his apartment waiting for a ride when Baker drove up, got out of his car, and walked up to the victim. Baker fired a single shot into the victim’s hip with a revolver. Baker drove off and a witness found the victim and rendered aid before the police arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries. The victim knew Baker through his sister and was able to identify him as the shooter. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s Real Time Crime Center captured Baker’s car driving from the scene and helped officers locate and arrest Baker. Revolver ammunition was found in a laundry hamper in Baker’s house.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Doug Baer Jr. and Andrew Szatkowski.
