State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Byron Holman guilty of Aggravated Battery. With the verdict, Holman faces a minimum of 25 years up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Holman at a later date.

On Aug. 26, 2023, officers responded to a New Kings Road gas station for a person shot. The victim had a gunshot wound to his leg. He was at the gas station when his son, Holman, called asking where he was. About 25 minutes later, Holman arrived at the gas station with another person. The two got into an argument with the victim, and a physical fight ensued between the victim and other person. The victim hit the other person with a tire pump and began to leave when the other person began hitting the victim’s car with a tire iron. The victim grabbed the tire pump and hit Holman’s car in return. The other person threw a windshield cleaner at the victim, while Holman went into his car and grabbed a shotgun. The victim told him to put the firearm away and turned away from his son. Holman shot the victim and drove away from the scene. A witness recorded part of the incident which showed Holman shooting the victim.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jalisa Curtis-King and Shaina Ruth.
