State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Antwon Jenkins guilty of Trafficking in Substituted Cathinone, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Less Than 20 Grams of Cannabis, and Possession of Controlled Substance Paraphernalia. With the verdict, Jenkins faces up to 42 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Anthony Salem will sentence Jenkins at a later date.
On Nov. 15, 2023, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a noise complaint on Bert Road. After handling the noise complaint, they noticed Jenkins asleep in the driver’s seat of an SUV as they returned to their patrol cars. The officers looked inside the driver-side window and saw two multicolored, granulated pills lying on the center console. They opened the door to wake Jenkins up and check if he was OK. After verifying that Jenkins was not suffering from a medical episode, they searched the SUV. The search revealed drugs scattered throughout the SUV, including a trafficking amount of substituted cathinone underneath the driver’s seat. Jenkins also had more than $1,000 in cash on him in small denominations, commonly seen in narcotics sales.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Michael Eckhart and Nicholas Salatino Jr.
