State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Travarse Levy guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon — Previous Enumerated Offense with Actual Possession. With the verdict, Levy faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison with a 10-year minimum mandatory sentence. The Honorable Meredith Charbula will sentence Levy at a later date.

Around 1:15 a.m. April 21, 2024, a patrol officer stopped Levy for riding a bicycle with no front light. While talking to Levy, the officer noticed multiple large bulges in his clothing consistent with concealed firearms. Levy was also wearing a ski mask and large jacket at the time, despite the warm weather. The officer asked if he could pat Levy down, and Levy instead offered his I.D. and began to reach into his pocket. The officer stopped him, and Levy began tensing up and jerking his arms away, and then Levy ran. The officer and his partner brought Levy to the ground, and Levy continued to try to reach into his pockets. During the struggle, Levy’s firearm fell to the ground next to them. Levy continued to fight with officers and attempted to grab one of the officer’s guns. After continued resistance and violence, the officers deployed their conducted electrical weapons. Eventually, Levy was put into handcuffs. Levy’s firearm was recovered from the scene with six rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. Levy is a previously convicted felon and is not legally allowed to possess a firearm; he was previously convicted of Armed Robbery and Second-Degree Murder.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Susan Haag and Daley Pajcic.
