State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Craig Fuce Jr. guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Fuce faces up to life in Florida State Prison due to enhanced penalties. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Fuce at a later date.
On Nov. 23, 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office went to a Union Street address in reference to someone shot. The victim had a gunshot wound to his lower back and was taken to the hospital and interviewed. Fuce approached the victim to collect $20 he owed him, later telling him if he didn’t pay he would “die today.” Fuce pulled the victim outside and the victim expected Fuce actually wanted to fight, but then Fuce pulled a gun out of his bag and shot the victim as he ran away. Fuce fled before police arrived. Security footage confirmed what the victim told officers. Fuce was arrested after a separate incident at a local business.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Crystal Ganpath-Freed and Carolyn Auchter.
