State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Da’Quan Thomas guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles. With the verdict, Thomas faces up to 45 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Thomas at a later date.

In the early morning hours of March 12, 2025, officers responded to a shooting at a Northside apartment complex. Around 6 p.m. the evening before, the victim and Thomas got into an argument after Thomas approached the victim’s 7-year-old daughter. During the argument, Thomas warned the victim he would come back with his gun. About 2 a.m., the victim heard a knock on his front door. He stepped outside and Thomas shot him; the bullet struck him in his right arm. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. Thomas was arrested two days later.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Crystal Ganpath-Freed and Elizabeth Brown.
