State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces a Duval County jury found Terry Wright guilty of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon Causing Great Bodily Injury; False Imprisonment; Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon; three counts of Aggravated Assault; Simple Battery; and Grand Theft Auto. With the verdict, Wright faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Wright at a later date.

Around 8 a.m. Sept. 29, 2024, officers responded to a victim shot in the leg on 7th Street South. The male victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. Wright showed up to where the woman and the victim were sleeping and confronted the two; Wright and the woman had been in an on-and-off again relationship. Wright pulled out a gun and shot the male victim in the leg. Wright then forced the female victim inside his car. A witness saw Wright force the woman at gunpoint into his car; Wright then pointed the gun at the witness and threatened to shoot. A Be On The Lookout was issued for the car.

Earlier in the day, a patrol officer was flagged down by three men who said Wright came by looking for his girlfriend and pointed a gun at each of them; Wright pistol whipped one of the men. Officers also received witness reports of Wright beating up a woman at the intersection of Seagate Avenue and 3rd Street North. A few hours later, an off-duty Jacksonville Beach Police Officer saw Wright trying to force the woman into his car as she was trying to run away. The off-duty officer identified himself and kept Wright on scene until officers arrived and arrested him.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Jacksonville Beach Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Katherina Brown and Susan Haag.
