State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Charles Lenton Jr. was found guilty by a Duval County jury of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Causing Great Bodily Harm). With the verdict, Lenton now faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Tatiana Salvador will sentence Lenton at a later date.

On Aug. 13, 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a stabbing incident at a Lenox Avenue food store and, upon arrival, found the victim with multiple stab wounds in his neck and back. The victim advised law enforcement his roommate, Charles Lenton, stabbed him at their Day Avenue residence. When officers went to the home, Lenton came outside bleeding with his hands up. Post-Miranda, Lenton gave a story about being robbed —this was contradicted by video inside the home that showed Lenton and the victim get into an argument in the kitchen before Lenton returned with a large knife and started stabbing the victim.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Elizabeth Brown and Joe Licandro.
