State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found David Moore Jr. guilty of Felony Battery (Domestic). Given his criminal history — including a recent release from prison after serving a sentence for Attempted Manslaughter — the Court qualified Moore as a Habitual Violent Felony Offender. With the verdict and classification, Moore faces up to 10 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will formally sentence Moore at a later date.
Just after midnight Oct. 27, 2024, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was called to a Northside home on Natalie Drive in reference to a domestic dispute with violence. A witness related to the victim told officers Moore beat up the victim, who shares a child with Moore. The victim had blood on her mouth, was missing a tooth, and had abrasions on her arms and legs. She said the two went out to celebrate Moore’s birthday and got into an argument after he wasn’t happy with his present. He then punched her in the mouth, knocking out her tooth. Moore dragged her from the driveway to the street, which caused the abrasions. Her wrist was also broken as a result of the battery.
During the trial, Moore fled the courthouse, and a capias was issued for his arrest. The case resumed and he was tried and found guilty in absentia — charges related to his flight will be forthcoming.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Kierstyn Jennings and Todd Conklin.
