State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Adam Eaton Scott was found guilty by a Clay County jury of Attempted Sexual Battery and Felony Battery. With the verdict, Scott now faces up to 10 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Steven Whittington will sentence Scott at a later date.
On Sept. 25, 2024, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office went to an Oakleaf Plantation home in reference to a sexual battery. Scott and the victim knew each other well. On Sept. 23, 2024, the victim encountered Scott at the home, where he pressed her for sex. The victim was attempting to get ready for work and continued to reject Scott’s advances. Scott then blocked her from leaving, forced her on a bed, and committed the Attempted Sexual Battery and Felony Battery. The victim continuously rejected the advances and Scott left visible bruising on her; the victim was able to escape after Scott was distracted. After reporting the incident to law enforcement, the victim made a controlled call to Scott, who confirmed his actions on the call.
The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Cara Devlin and Todd Conklin.
