State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Tyriek Sherwood guilty of Armed Robbery and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Sherwood faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Anthony Salem will sentence Sherwood at a later date.

On April 12, 2023, police were called to a Southside apartment complex for an armed robbery. The female victim was walking to her front door when Sherwood and another man put a gun to the back of her head and grabbed her bag. The victim’s boyfriend heard the commotion outside the apartment. When he came outside, the men ran off with the victim’s money and other items. Two doorbell cameras captured the crime and aftermath.

Sherwood wore black latex gloves, a piece of which was left at the scene. DNA collected from the glove matched Sherwood. A review of Sherwood’s social media showed him wearing distinctly branded clothes that matched the clothes he wore during the robbery. Additionally, he was pictured wearing black latex gloves. Sherwood is also a previously convicted felon and is not legally allowed to possess a firearm.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Shaina Ruth and Todd Conklin.
