State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Dominic Williams guilty of one count of First-Degree Murder and two counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder in the 2019 targeted shooting of three victims. With the verdict, Williams faces a mandatory sentence of life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Lindsay Tygart will formally sentence Williams at a later date.

On Aug. 12, 2019, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to West Fifth Street after being alerted to two people injured at a fast-food restaurant on Kings Road. ShotSpotter also reported gunshots in the area. Two of the victims were found badly injured at the business. The victims ran from a car crash down the road. Inside the car, police found a third victim: a 17-year-old who died from his injuries. One of the surviving victims told police he was set up by a woman he talked to on social media but had never met. Detectives obtained the messages between the woman and the victim. They also discovered messages between the woman and another person, Joey Adams III, who told her to set up the victim. The woman, a juvenile at the time, and Adams were arrested for their involvement.  Adams provided the name of his other co-defendants including Dominic Williams. Text messages and cell site location data placed Williams at the shooting.

Adams previously pleaded guilty to his involvement and will be sentenced at a later date.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Lauren Anderson and Brittany Johnson.
