Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his appointment of Assistant State Attorney Dan Skinner to the University of North Florida board of trustees.

For Skinner, a homicide director in the State Attorney’s Office, the appointment represents homecoming. A UNF alumnus, Skinner was a member of the university’s 1989 NAIA College World Series team. He and his teammates were inducted into the UNF Hall of Fame in 2010 for that feat.

“I have a deep understanding and appreciation for everything the University of North Florida represents, and I am honored Gov. DeSantis has provided me this opportunity to serve my alma mater,” said Skinner. “I look forward to helping the UNF community achieve greater success.”

Skinner earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from UNF before earning his law degree from Regent University in 1996. He joined the State Attorney’s Office in March 1997 and has spent his entire career as a prosecutor. He has served as a director in multiple areas including the Clay County office, Homicide Major Crimes Unit, Repeat Offender Court Unit, Special Prosecution Unit, and Special Victims Unit. As a homicide director, Skinner oversees and works closely with prosecutors who pursue justice in the office’s most serious criminal cases.

“Congratulations to Dan Skinner on his appointment to the UNF Board of Trustees. His leadership and commitment to our community will be tremendous assets to the university,” said State Attorney Melissa Nelson.

Skinner’s appointment must be confirmed by the Florida Senate.
