State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Edward Buckhanon guilty of Felony Battery. With the verdict, Buckhanon faces five years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Mark Borello will sentence Buckhanon at a later date.

The victim retired to Jacksonville in 2011. Soon after she moved, Buckhanon (her immediate neighbor) repeatedly harassed her. To minimize contact with Buckhanon, she put up a privacy fence between their homes.

On March 19, 2024, the victim and her neighbors were fixing the fence while he was in his driveway working on his motorcycle. Buckhanon became irate, yelled racial slurs, and cussed at them while they worked on the fence. Buckhanon’s behavior escalated when he retrieved a pipe from his home. Buckhanon swung the pipe at the victim’s head. She moved her arm up to block the metal pipe, and it fractured her arm in several places. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took the victim to the hospital where she underwent surgery for her injuries.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Michael Eckhart and Fabrizia Wade.
