State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Dewayne Vicks was found guilty by a jury of Sexual Battery and Showing Obscene Materials to a Minor. With the verdict, Vicks faces mandatory life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jonathan Sacks will sentence Vicks at a later date.
On March 20, 2024, a sexual battery was reported against a child victim. During the initial interview, the victim provided intimate details about Vicks’ offenses. The next day, forensic interviewers confirmed additional details about Vicks’ crimes, which included showing the victim pornographic videos while committing the sexual batteries. Vicks was arrested on March 28, 2024, and admitted to the sexual battery.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Caitlin Messinger and Daley Pajcic.
