State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Stevon Walker guilty of Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Walker faced a mandatory life sentence in Florida State Prison as a Prison Releasee Re-Offender and Habitual Violent Felony Offender. The Honorable Mark Borello sentenced Walker to life in prison on March 4.
Around 5 p.m. on April 9, 2023, Walker went into a Cassat Avenue convenience store and purchased numerous scratch off tickets. He approached the clerk under the guise of redeeming the winning tickets and then pulled a firearm on the clerk and demanded all the money in the store. The clerk gave him the register money and then Walker demanded the clerk open the ATM. When the clerk told him that he did not have keys to do so, a violent fight ensued. Walker pistol whipped the victim several times in the head, but the victim was able to escape and run to a nearby store to call for help. Investigators found a large amount of blood on scene as well as identification left behind from Walker, two 9mm casings, and a pistol magazine.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Corie Powell and Brittany Johnson.
