DUVAL COUNTY JURY FINDS BOYD GUILTY OF ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF FIREARM
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Jontae Boyd guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Boyd faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Mark Borello will sentence Boyd at a later date.
On Oct. 31, 2022, Boyd walked into a pawn shop on Atlantic Boulevard and sold a 9mm firearm. Boyd presented his driver’s license at the time of the sale, gave his fingerprint on the Florida Pawnbroker Transaction Form, and signed a form stating he was the owner of the firearm. Boyd received $650 in exchange for the weapon. The next day, a property recovery detective with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office came across the transaction and noticed the firearm was listed as stolen. Boyd is a nine-time convicted felon and is not legally allowed to possess a firearm.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Luke Dill and Korey Milo.
