BROWNING PLEADS GUILTY, SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS FOR MURDER

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Dawn Browning has pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder. Immediately after her plea, Browning was sentenced by the Honorable Tatiana Salvador to 35 years in Florida State Prison.

On June 6, 2021, members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a Dunn Avenue fast food restaurant where they found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was transported to the hospital but died from his injuries. Surveillance footage from the restaurant showed the victim running from a nearby business to the restaurant as if he was being chased. When he arrived, a red car driven by Browning pulled up next to him. Browning is seen on video pointing a handgun out the window and yelling at the victim. She then fired a single shot and drove away. The video goes on to show the victim walked away from the car and was shot in the back. A witness also observed Browning speeding away from the scene after the shooting and was able to provide law enforcement with a tag number. Browning was the owner of the car and matched the description provided by the witness. Post-Miranda, Browning admitted to confronting and shooting the victim over a dispute about money.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Erin Wolfson.
