JURY FINDS DAISHAWN BROWN GUILTY OF 2019 MURDER, ARMED ROBBERY

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces a Duval County jury found Daishawn Brown guilty of First-Degree Murder and Attempted Armed Robbery. After the verdict, the Honorable Jeb Branham sentenced Brown to life in Florida State Prison, the mandatory sentence for the murder charge.

On July 24, 2019, Brown was at an acquaintance’s home when he observed the victim walk by the residence. Brown told a witness in the house he planned to rob the victim — he did, but when he robbed the victim at gunpoint, he discovered the victim had nothing of value. The victim told Brown he was calling the police and Brown responded by shooting him three times. Brown then ran back to the house and told the witness what happened. When the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, they initially had no leads. However, the witness told a family member what happened, and that family member notified law enforcement with information. Several items were sent for forensic testing, and, among other evidence, Brown’s DNA was found under the victim’s fingernails. When interviewed by law enforcement, Brown denied he saw, met, or interacted with the victim in any way. He was later arrested an indicted by a grand jury.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Austin Kwikkel and Alan Mizrahi.
